Cosmetic Surgery is on the Rise

In addition to his title as an otolaryngologist, Dr. Wandzel is also a board-certified plastic surgeon. Helping patients to feel both physically and emotionally “normal” became important to him while treating patients with facial trauma, and plastic surgery offered him a means of delivering that comfort to them.

Dr. Wandzel has been very successful in repairing facial disfigurements due to trauma. Whether the surgery is elective or post-traumatic, he always seeks to give you absolute satisfaction and confidence in your appearance. Since each surgery is highly individualized, Dr. Wandzel will meet with you at length before and after the surgery to discuss budget options and to create a plan that best fits your needs.

Cosmetic services offered include:

Collagen/Fillers

Sunken or areas of skin can be restored by substances called “fillers.” A commonly used filler is collagen, which can be injected into the skin or lips to give a fuller appearance.

Blepharoplasty (eyelid reduction)

Blepharochalasis is a term used to describe the appearance of sagging eyelids and skin surrounding the eyes. It often causes a decrease in peripheral vision. Depending on how much it interferes with your vision, this procedure can often be clinically warranted and sometimes be covered by insurance. A blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure typically performed in a hospital setting. It decreases skin collection and bulk around the eye and offers a clean, youthful appearance.

Liposuction

Fat around the upper neck and below the chin can cause the appearance of a “double chin” and be bothersome to some patients. Dr. Wandzel can remove this excess fat through facial liposuction, which can typically be performed in-office. It is a simple procedure that can offer a more defined facial outline and contouring.

Otoplasty (ears “pinned back”)

Otoplasty is a procedure to change the external appearance of the ears that is commonly referred to as having the ears “pinned back.” This procedure can boost self-esteem issues by making adjustments like making the ears lie close to the head, correcting cartilage that is misshapen, or making the ears smaller overall.

Rhinoplasty (nose surgery)

Trauma, diseases such as cancer, or abnormal growth could all bring about a desire to change the current shape of your nose, whether it’s to improve nasal function or alter your appearance. A rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure that changes the outward appearance of the nose and corrects nasal shape issues. It’s typically performed in the hospital.

Scar Revisions

Scar revisions are performed to decrease the visibility of bothersome facial scars. There are several techniques that can be used effectively, and the right one for you is determined based on your individual needs. For example, Dr. Wandzel can inject fillers into the scar to make the scar’s skin even with the surrounding skin. He could also perform a surgical excision of the current scar to give it a neater and smaller appearance. Dr. Wandzel can discuss these options with you during an office visit, and scar revisions can typically be performed in-office.
